Eight Clusters of excellence
IdEx Bordeaux is featuring 8 clusters of excellence for research, training and transfer of knowledge. These are the driving force of the international repute of the University of Bordeaux.
Among these 8 clusters of Excellence, 5 have been selected in the framework of the national programme "Laboratoires d'Excellence" (LabEx).
Clusters of excellence
Over the past ten years, the research activities of the members of the University of Bordeaux have followed a fast-growing curve, leading to the consolidation of world-class research clusters in several scientific fields. These are the driving force of its development and a vehicle for its international visibility.
Within these clusters, 8 projects have been promoted nationally within the framework of Laboratoires d'execellence (LabEx), made up of teams belonging to joint research units (universities, national research bodies, industry representatives).
The particular objectives of each LabEx are the following:
-
to figure in the medium term among the research organizations that set the European research agenda,
-
to create a positive 'ripple' effect on the University of Bordeaux's clusters of excellence and on the site in general,
-
to promote the development of new multidisciplinary methodologies,
-
to increase innovative programmes and technology transfer,
-
to root education (masters/engineering and doctoral training) more firmly in the site's highest-performing research areas.
The LabEx policy corresponds to a mid-term ambition to increase the productivity and visibility of the University of Bordeaux's research activities. We will pinpoint scientific excellence coupled with significant critical masses in order to constitute a coherent package of scientific projects.
Alongside this approach, the University of Bordeaux aims to develop a long-term policy of preparing the emergence of tomorrow's excellence, whether in existing disciplinary fields or in new fields resulting from the teaming-up of the various stakeholders.
